SentriFrame is a security-management framework that helps residential estates take greater control of how their security is defined, managed and assessed.
Guarding companies and technology providers deliver services and systems. SentriFrame helps the estate establish what those services and systems must achieve, the standards they must meet, how performance will be measured and how shortcomings will be addressed.
It gives the estate a structured basis for directing its security arrangements, rather than relying on individual providers to determine how security should be managed.
Having security arrangements in place is not necessarily the same as knowing how effectively they are working.
An estate may have experienced few incidents, employed a reputable guarding company and invested in appropriate technology. But can it demonstrate that its arrangements address its identified risks, that the different elements work together as intended, and that its providers are delivering against clearly defined requirements?
SentriFrame helps the estate answer these questions. It establishes a documented basis for managing security, measuring performance and identifying where improvements may be warranted.
The objective is not to change arrangements for the sake of change. It is to give the estate greater confidence in its security decisions and a sound basis for maintaining and improving its arrangements over time.
We would expect an estate to have a security policy and an SLA. These are important foundations for managing security. SentriFrame builds on them.
The question is whether the policy, contractual arrangements, operating procedures and performance measures work together as a coherent management system.
Does the policy translate into clearly defined security requirements? Are those requirements supported by appropriate procedures and measurable KPIs? Do the SLAs reflect what the estate actually requires? Can management assess performance objectively, identify shortcomings and follow through on corrective action?
SentriFrame connects these elements. It helps translate the estate's security objectives and risk considerations into practical requirements, consistent operating procedures, measurable performance expectations and a structured process for monitoring and review.
The result is more than a collection of documents and contracts. It is a framework the estate can use to direct its security arrangements, assess whether they are delivering what is required and make informed decisions about improvements.
No two estates have precisely the same security requirements. Their risks, layouts, infrastructure, operations, governance arrangements and existing security resources differ.
SentriFrame provides the structure, but the framework is adapted to the estate's circumstances. L&A begins by assessing the existing position, including the estate's objectives, risks, documentation, contracts and governance arrangements. This informs the scope of work and the development of the estate-specific framework.
The objective is to build on what is already in place, address the estate's particular requirements and establish arrangements that are practical to operate and maintain.
The cost and duration depend on the estate's size, operational complexity, existing security arrangements and the scope of work required.
The engagement begins with an assessment of the existing position. This establishes the work involved in adapting the framework, developing the necessary documentation and procedures, and implementing the arrangements with the estate's leadership and management.
Once the appropriate scope has been established, L&A can provide a proposal setting out the work to be undertaken, the associated fee and the anticipated timeframe.
This approach allows the engagement to reflect the estate's actual requirements rather than apply a standard scope and price regardless of its circumstances.
An initial discussion is an opportunity to establish how your estate currently manages security, what it wants to achieve and whether SentriFrame would be appropriate.
It is not a commitment to appoint L&A or proceed with a particular scope of work. The discussion helps identify the issues to be addressed and provides a basis for determining what an engagement might involve.
If there is a suitable basis for proceeding, the proposed scope, timeframe, fee and responsibilities is set out for consideration before the estate makes a decision.
SentriFrame provides the structure, but effective security management requires the estate's participation.
During implementation, L&A works with the estate's leadership and management to understand the existing arrangements, establish the estate's requirements, clarify responsibilities and put the framework into practice.
This will typically involve access to relevant documentation, input from the people responsible for security, and participation in reviewing and approving requirements and procedures.
Thereafter, the estate needs to maintain management oversight, review provider performance and audit findings, assign corrective actions and follow up on their implementation.
The level of involvement depends on the estate's size, complexity and existing management arrangements. SentriFrame is designed to provide structure and continuity without creating unnecessary administrative burdens.
Not necessarily. SentriFrame does not presume that an estate needs more guards, additional technology or a new security provider.
The first step is to assess the existing position and establish whether the current arrangements adequately address the estate's requirements. This may identify opportunities to improve how existing resources are managed, how performance is measured or how responsibilities are defined. It may also identify shortcomings that warrant further attention.
Some improvements may be achieved through better procedures, clearer accountability or more effective oversight. Others may require investment or changes to existing contracts.
Any such changes would need to be considered in light of the estate's priorities, contractual obligations and available budget. The estate retains responsibility for its decisions and expenditure. SentriFrame provides a more structured basis on which to make those decisions.
SentriFrame is not intended to replace an estate's existing security provider. It establishes a clearer basis for defining what the provider is required to deliver and assessing whether it is doing so.
A provider that is delivering the required service should benefit from clear expectations, defined responsibilities and objective performance measures. Where shortcomings exist, the estate has a more structured basis for identifying them, discussing them with the provider and agreeing on appropriate corrective action.
The framework may require providers to work differently, particularly where requirements, reporting or performance monitoring have not previously been clearly defined. Their response will depend on the circumstances and the nature of the changes involved.
The purpose is not to create conflict. It is to establish a professional relationship in which the estate's requirements are understood, responsibilities are clear and service delivery can be assessed against agreed expectations.
The estate retains responsibility for its security decisions, priorities, expenditure and oversight. SentriFrame helps it exercise those responsibilities within a defined management framework.
L&A works with the estate to develop and implement the framework, establish the necessary procedures and performance measures, and put practical monitoring and reporting processes in place.
When shortcomings or opportunities for improvement are identified, responsibility for decisions and corrective action needs to be clear. The framework supports this by providing a documented basis for assigning responsibilities, recording matters requiring attention and following up on agreed actions.
Periodic audits help assess whether the framework is being applied and whether identified weaknesses are being addressed. They support management oversight; they do not replace it.
Security management should not depend on the knowledge, preferences or working methods of particular individuals.
Changes in estate management or board membership can otherwise result in lost knowledge, inconsistent practices and uncertainty about why particular decisions were made.
SentriFrame documents the estate's security objectives, requirements, procedures, responsibilities and performance expectations. This gives incoming managers and committee members a reference point for understanding the existing arrangements and continuing the estate's approach.
The framework can also be reviewed and updated as the estate's risks, operations and requirements change. It provides continuity while allowing the arrangements to evolve when necessary.
Implementation establishes the framework; effective security management requires it to be used.
The estate applies the documented requirements and procedures, monitors provider performance, reviews matters requiring attention and follows up on corrective actions. The framework also provides a basis for reviewing whether the estate's arrangements remain appropriate as its circumstances change.
Periodic security management audits by L&A form part of the ongoing service relationship. These assess how the framework is being applied, whether requirements and procedures remain appropriate, and whether identified weaknesses are being addressed.
The findings inform corrective actions and further improvements. This helps keep the framework relevant and supports a continuing process of management, monitoring and review rather than treating implementation as a once-off exercise.
SentriFrame was developed by Liebenberg & Associates, an independent physical-security consultancy established in 2009.
L&A does not sell security products, install security systems or provide guarding services. Its advice is therefore not dependent on selling particular equipment or securing contracts for security service providers.
This allows L&A to focus on the estate's requirements when advising on security arrangements, evaluating performance and identifying areas for improvement.
The distinction is important. The security provider is responsible for delivering its contracted service. L&A helps the estate define what that service must achieve and independently assess how effectively the estate's security arrangements are being managed.
SentriFrame was developed by L&A through its work with residential estates across South Africa. Its structure reflects practical experience in security strategy, operational management, provider oversight and the challenges estates face in maintaining effective security arrangements.
The framework addresses a fundamental management requirement: the estate needs to define what its security arrangements must deliver, establish how performance will be assessed and retain control of the decisions that follow.
Its effectiveness should be judged by how well it enables the estate to do this in practice. Are requirements clear? Are responsibilities understood? Can provider performance be assessed against defined expectations? Are shortcomings identified and corrective actions followed through? Does management have a better basis for making decisions about security priorities and expenditure?
SentriFrame does not guarantee that security incidents will not occur. It provides a structured basis for managing security, assessing performance and improving the estate's ability to make informed decisions about the protection of its people, property and operations.
